1. The Festival

The main objective of the Brazil's 4th International Disability Film Festival is to promote and encourage new ways of seeing special needs and disabilities. By disability we mean any physical, sensorial or intellectual impairment. We accept films of any duration, genre and production date dealing with this issue.

The Brazil's 4th International Disability Film Festival will take place in Rio de Janeiro in August, in Brasília in September and in São Paulo in October, 2009.

2. The Submission and Preview Material

To submit a film, complete the on-line submission form until May 15th and send us a printed and signed version together with your preview material. Only upon receipt of all requested material with the submission form signed, will the on-line submission be valid. The submission form will be available only until May 15th . Material received after May 22nd, 2009 will not be considered for 2009 edition.

The preview material consists in:

• a printed and signed version of the submission form;
• a DVD NTSC labeled with title, running time and contact information;
• main cast and credits;
• director’s short curriculum;
• a synopsis in English;
• 3 pictures or digital images of the film (minimum resolution 300 DPI, JPEG or TIF);
• full transcriptions of the original dialogue list in English (mandatory) and in other languages also, if it’s available.

Pictures, dialogues list, director’s curriculum, synopsis, and main cast and credits can be sent in a CD or by email to festival2009@assimvivemos.com.br.

All the material for selection must be sent directly to the address below with “For cultural use only” clearly marked on the envelope. It is preferable to use a regular airmail service, but if the sender chooses to send the preview material by an express courier service, THE COST OF CUSTOM DUTIES AND TAXES MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE TRANSPORTATION COST PAID BY THE SENDER. Therefore, when completing the forms do not forget to select “BILL DUTIES AND TAXES TO SENDER”. We will not accept parcels that result in payment of duties.

There is no submission fee.

3. Selection, Formats and Deadline for Selected Films

All participants will be notified of the Festival Organization’s decision on June 15th, 2009.

If your work is selected you must send us a screening copy in DVD NTSC; only this format is accepted.

The copies for screening of the selected films must be received until June 30th, 2007.

4. Shipping Charges and Insurance of Copies

Shipping charges for all material sent for selection and exhibition must be borne by the participants.

The Festival will not return the DVDs to the sender. These copies will be kept by the Organization and added to the Festival Film Archive which will be available to the public without any commercial purposes.

5. Divulgation

Sending publicity material is not obligatory but is recommended. This material will be available to journalists, guests and audience during the Festival.

Film extracts will be used for promotional purposes.

6. Jury, Awards and DVD

A jury of three members invited by the Festival Organization will judge the selected films and reward five films in five different categories; in addition, there will be an Audience Award. There will be no cash prize.

The Audience of the Brazil’s 4th International Disability Film Festival will choose their favorite films and these, together with the films awarded by the Jury, will comprise a non commercial DVD which will be distributed to institutions and foundations for free. Filling and signing the submission form implies the agreement with this condition. The DVD will contain only short and medium-length films. Therefore, if a feature film is elected as an Audience favorite or awarded by the Jury, it will not be included in the DVD.

All participants of the Festival will receive a copy of the DVD.

7. Final Condition

Participation to the Brazil’s 4th International Disability Film Festival implies acceptance of all rules and respect of selection conditions and requirements. Issues not covered by the above conditions will be resolved by the Festival Organization.
