O filme levanta questões importantes para os pais de crianças diferentes: como saber quando é a hora de incentivar a independência do filho com deficiência intelectual? O filme mostra a experiência de algumas mães e seus filhos com deficiência intelectual, especialmente autismo. Como os cangurus, todas as crianças em algum momento saem da bolsa marsupial de sua mãe. Mas as crianças diferentes podem demorar um tempo bem maior. E alguns ensaios são necessários, em um processo complexo de tentativa de sair de perto e voltar para a família, que talvez continue por toda a vida.

This film raises an important question for us, parents of different children: how do we part while the situation imposes, in essence, the hand-to-hand fight? If the baby kangaroo leaves the pocket at a certain moment, the handicapped child stays longer in the lap of his/her mother. The stake being then to dare to push him/her gently out. On his/her part, the child also has to prove to his/her mother that (s)he can become independent. It is a long and complex process… One back and forth ceaseless way between the inside and the outside of the pocket that only the end of one life stops.
