A fala tem poder e se impõe como forma superior de comunicação, forçando pessoas surdas a aprenderem a repetir sons que não conseguem ouvir. É um esforço tremendo – e é desgastante. Até que, muitas vezes chega o momento em que o surdo descobre que foi inútil o tempo em que tentou aprender algo que simplesmente não lhe servia. O filme pretende mostrar um caminho de descoberta, dúvida, silêncio, alegria, aceitação, incompreensão e afirmação.
Oral Language is powerful and it establishes itself as a main way of communication, forcing deaf people to learn and repeat sounds that they can’t hear. It is a great effort – and very exhausting for them. And frequently, there comes a moment when the deaf realize that all time spent trying to learn all this was pointless. The film intends to show a path of discovery, doubt, silence, happiness, acceptance, incomprehension and affirmation.

“A special Day” follows a Day in the life of several Brazilian families with autistic and other rare syndromes children. At the end of this daily journey, parents discover that they are as special as their kids.

O filme capta como o curso utiliza o teatro para dar aos alunos a oportunidade de ser criativos através da música, da contação de histórias e da encenação teatral. Ele pode inspirar e influenciar educadores, e também desafiar as pessoas a ver além da deficiência, a ver as conquistas e a entender as muitas formas de significação que a comunicação pode utilizar.
The film follows the award winning school-community partnership between Mount Ommaney Special School and The Song Room. Through the dedication and knowledge of teachers, led by Belinda Berrington, this inspirational drama program is empowering students with disabilities to achieve beyond their potential. The film captures how the program uses drama to provide students with opportunities to be creative and to connect with the world around them, while providing meaningful engagement in education through music, storytelling and dramatic play. It can inspire and influence educators, while also challenging society to see beyond the disability, to see achievement and to understand the many forms that meaningful communication can take.
